Archive for December, 2009

I have generally thought that people who make resolutions simply for the new year are just going along with what crappy morning television tells them to do, but this time around I’ve realised that, to be fair, it’s as good a time as any.

1: Drink only water.

2: Eat four pieces of fruit or vegetables a day. I don’t believe all the Goverment’s bullshit about five being the all-important number, plus I’m obsessive-compulsive. I can’t do anything in odd numbers, I hate it.

3: Style hair to some degree of acceptability each day.

4: Grow both hair and nails.

Now onto other news:

Anybody who is in denial about feminine bodily functions/ a straight male/ a creepy internet pervert, turn away now.

I have found the most adorable tampons on this Earth. They come in this cute little vintage stripy tin, and they’re colour coded in peach, pink, or blue!! Moxie Products 🙂

AHHH THEY'RE SO CUTE!! Shouldn't be, but are.

I’m also once again in the middle of painting my nails red. Not much other news to report, I’m afraid.

Bye bye,

New things

Ventured into the sales today. It was very busy indeed. However, still managed to come out with new black lace gloves, pearl headband and heat protection spray, which can only be a good thing.

Kathleen Hanna was the frontwoman of 90s riot grrrl band Bikini KIll, and later the lead singer in “feminist punk electronic” (their words, not mine) band Le Tigre.

“You learn that the only way to get rock-star power as a girl is to be a groupie and bare your breasts and get chosen for the night. We learn that the only way to get anywhere is through men. And it’s a lie.”
Kathleen Hanna

Kathleen Hanna in the Julie Ruin days, if I'm not mistaken. Regardless of what particular time this photo was taken, it's still awesome.

“I hate pretty boys cuz they get all the good parts of being female (clothes, jewelry, hair slutpower) ONLY none of the bad ones (rape, murder, poverty).”                                                                                                                                                                              – Kathleen Hanna

This is from sometime in the early 90s, I think. I LOVE HER HAIR.

“Then she [Kathleen’s mother] took me to the Solidarity Day thing, and it was the first time I had ever been in a big crowd of women yelling, and it really made me want to do it forever.”                                                                                                       – Kathleen Hanna

Kathleen Hanna when she was in Le Tigre. Sadly the band are on hiatus at the moment 😦

“The cops have gotta be deaf, dumb, and spastic
To not catch the killer of one hundred women
I guess it’d be different if they thought we were human…”                                                                                                                                  – Kathleen Hanna singing as Julie Ruin, in the song I Wanna Know What Love Is.

The cover art for the Le Tigre album, This Island. Kathleen is the one on the right, JD Samson is in the middle, and Johanna Fateman to the left. JD and Johanna are both so amazing I can't even say, but this is technically a style blog, so I'm focusing on Kathleen's style.

“I’m so sorry if I’m alienating some of you. Your fucking culture alienates me.”                                                                                       – From the song White Boy by Bikini Kill. Bloody fantastic song.

Quick post

Monsoon, £7.00

I really like that headband if you can actually wear it properly. I think with an otherwise completely black outfit and gold flat shoes, it would look good.

Bye Bye and sorry for the short post (I don’t have a lot of time)

Eeek. Nothing I despise more than trudging out into the cold weather after Christmas to fight some whore over the last pair of size 6 blue lace pumps, but I’ll try. My plan is to sort out everything I want on the internet beforehand and then run into the shops, grab, pay, and run out. But believe me, you have to start early if you want to find the good shit before other people do. It’s not even Boxing Day yet and loads of the sale stuff on internet sites is already sold out completely. I’ll show a few nice finds here, all really cheap:

Peacocks, £18.00

New Look, £7.00

Bhs, £4.00

I especially love the trilby, it would look really good with black skinny jeans and a band t-shirt 🙂

So, Christmas today. Presents I got which are relevant to the blog are;

– Lots and lots of pyjamas

– Stripy button cardigan

– Slipper socks 😀

– Two pairs of over-the-knee socks, one pair yellow smiley faces, one pair stripy (from my friends S. and B.)

– A necklace with a pot leaf on it (from B. :P)

– Some masks with rude words on them (from a friend, N., because there’s a running joke that I’m going to end up working as a brothel madam.)

Aaaand… that’s pretty much it for relevant things. I also got some DVDs, a CD, a book, and loads of sweets.

Bye bye,

The results aren’t actually too bad, but again, I would say that a decent set of nail polishes is absolutely necessary for this. The white undercoat on mine has started to go grey and patchy already, and paining over it just doesn’t look good at all. This just smudges really easily and that ruins the entire look of the nail. I used my new deep red colour to do the main part of the nail, and here’s a reminder of the instructions I used;

I found it a bit easier to cut the punch protectors into halves before sticking them onto my nails, as it sticks to the surface a bit better so you don’t get so much dark polish on the half-moon. As soon as you’ve painted the red onto the nail, remove the punch protector straight away. If you leave it for too long then when you come to peel it off, some of the nail polish comes with it.

The index finger of my left hand is one of the ones where the undercoat went patchy, so I painted over the half-moon but managed to smudge it in the process. You might be able to see that a bit better if you click on the image to open it up into a bigger picture.

And I think that these shoes may well be the most amazing thing EVER.

Paper concept shoes by NDEUR. Quite frankly, if I could marry an inanimate object, it would be these.

I don’t think they would support the feet very well, or indeed stay in shape in the rain, but I don’t give a damn because they are fucking AWESOME. This is the blog of the creators, NDEUR: http://ndeur.wordpress.com/

Have a nice Christmas everyone, or I hope you had a nice Hanukkah if you’re Jewish, or if you don’t celebrate any religious festival then just have a nice day 🙂
